Show notes from Episode #148 of the Sweaty Startup Podcast.
Harvard announced they would be closing dorms and evacuating students before their spring break due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Then Tufts, and then Cornell, and Boston College, and dozens of other schools, including most of Storage Squad’s market.
An hour after Harvard’s announcement, the Storage Squad team had emergency contingency planning calls with schools in their market. They missed hundreds of calls from customers who need Storage Squad’s services both desperately and on short notice.
The Storage Squad team wasn’t planning to have employees, trucks, boxes, or even warehouse space ready until April 20th, and now they have just a few days to give students what they need.
Their competitors are already coming out and saying that they won’t be able to service customers. Schools are expecting Storage Squad to pick things up in stride despite this complete overhaul to their business. Frankly, they’re worried about their future.
