There’s a problem with how the media portrays entrepreneurship, glamorizing things like Shark Tank and idolizing Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. In my mind, those aren’t good examples of entrepreneurship. They drive a lot of smart people to think that to be entrepreneurs they need to change the world, rely on venture capital, and try to do something new to succeed. So many entrepreneurs are incredibly successful people who do boring things and carve out their piece of the pie.
You don’t need to bring the next big new idea to be a successful entrepreneur. You can do something people already do, that’s low risk, and build a healthy business over time that gives you the lifestyle you want. Wealth doesn’t have to be about having hundreds of millions of dollars, to me it’s about having the money to do what you want when you want.
The wealthiest people I know didn’t have new or big ideas. They went out, started a business doing something simple, and made money over time. People in all industries are making a ton of money without even operating well. They don’t take online payments, their website isn’t functional, and they have horrible customer service. But they make a killing.
You don’t need new ideas or a revolutionary mindset to carve out your piece of the pie. It’s all about doing the little things and growing.
