346: How the wealthiest people that I know started

There’s a problem with how the media portrays entrepreneurship with things like Shark Tank and Tech Crunch highlighting the billionaire disruptors of the world. Entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk aren’t a good example of the standard business owner, they’re a minority. A lot of smart people who can do incredible things think that they have to change the world and dream big to be an entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur is somebody who sees an opportunity and carves out their piece of the pie, that’s it. People are intimidated by entrepreneurship because they think they need to be spectacular, raise a ton of money, and have a great idea to succeed. But many entrepreneurs start small doing something that people already do, without taking on a ton of risk and do it well enough to grow over time. They build big, healthy businesses that give them a flexible lifestyle and generate wealth.

Wealth is having both the money and the time to do what you want to do when you want to. The wealthiest people I know don’t have new or big or risky ideas, they started a simple business and they operated well and they competed and they carved out their piece of the pie. You can do things just a little bit better than your average competitor and make a living, and get wealthy, that way.

About Me

I started the Sweaty Startup in December of 2018 because I believe the Shark Tank and Tech Crunch culture is ruining the real spirit of low-risk entrepreneurship.
